Teeth Whitening
If you’re exploring professional teeth whitening, our clinicians near Rugby offer a monitored approach designed to safely brighten the natural shade of your enamel. Suitability, technique and results are always discussed with you.
Safely brighten the shade of your teeth
Whitening is an extremely popular way of safely brightening the shade of your teeth. The process is simple, safe and highly effective. The treatment is pain free and only requires impressions or a scan of your teeth and the results can be noticed in a few days.
Whitening is usually carried out in the comfort of your own home. After assessing your suitability your dentist just outside Rugby will take an impression or scan of your teeth, they would then provide you with custom fitting whitening trays that fit over your teeth, as well as whitening gel. They will then show you how to use the gel and whitening trays to whiten your teeth. The process takes up to two weeks and the trays with gel inside them can be used during the day or at night.
Most people won’t find whitening painful, although it can cause some sensitivity. This is usually easy to tackle by using sensitive toothpastes or serums. The sensitivity will pass once the whitening process is complete. If you get severe sensitivity during the process, you should seek advice from your dentist.
How long does it last?
Longevity varies from person to person. Diet, lifestyle and oral habits all influence how long whitening results are maintained. Drinks such as tea, coffee and red wine, along with smoking, can shorten the time before topping up. Many patients refresh their whitening after 6–12 months, which usually just requires additional gel, as the trays can often be reused if they remain well-fitting and teeth have not moved.
Will restorations change colour?
Only natural enamel responds to whitening gels. Existing restorations such as fillings, crowns, veneers or bridges do not change shade during treatment.

Whitening can only be carried out in a healthy mouth. If you have tooth decay or active gingival or periodontal problems then these will need to be treated first as well as any other oral health concerns. We cannot carry out whitening in patients under the age or 18, pregnant or nursing women.
